Applesauce Brownies

This recipe came from my husbands grandmother. It is a favorite desert of everyone - not too chocolaty and very moist more like a cake than a brownie. It is wonderful by itself or served with vanilla ice cream.
  • 1/2 cup butter, melted
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 cups flour
  • 1/2 tsp cinnamon
  • 2 Tbsp cocoa
  • 1/2 tsp salt
  • 1 1/2 tsp baking soda
  • 1 tsp vanilla
  • 2 cups applesauce
  • 2 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 large package chocolate chips

Mix together the melted butter and first measure of sugar. Add eggs and vanilla. Mix well. Sift together the next 5 ingredients and add to butter mixture. Add applesauce making sure to mix completely. Spread in a greased 9x9 pan. Sprinkle 2 Tbsp of sugar and chocolate chips over top. Bake at 350 degrees for 45 minutes or until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
