Yarn Along

Joining in the fun of another week of Ginny's Yarn Along. A time and place to share two of my favorite things ~ Knitting and Reading.

This week on the needles is the same pair of socks. At least this is the second sock and it really is almost done! These socks have been really fun to knit. They are the first pair of toe up socks I've knit and the first time I use the magic loop technique. The next pair I am really going to try to knit two at a time. Need to do a little research first.

As for books, I just finished Made From Scratch. It was a very fast and enjoyable read. I was hoping to learn a little more, but this book really is for the beginner. Not a problem, the writer style is down home comfy. I thoroughly enjoyed her tales of success and disaster on her way to learning how to homestead. the reference section in the back looks quite good as well.

We are starting The Willoughbys as a read aloud. And the Tomten books are for Bekah!

Don't forget to hop on over to Small Things and join in this week's Yarn Along. Or at least be inspired to knit and read ~ it's so much fun!

  1. The two Tomten books have LONG been a favorite in our house. Every one of my four boys has gone through a stage of wanting to read them over and over and over, and they are the sort of books you don't mind reading again and again. Have you read any of Lindgren's "Noisy Village" books yet? Also wonderful! Happy yarn along...

  2. I love doing socks toe up, two at a time, magic loop. Until you get to the heel, you just have to be careful that you switch working yarn when you move between the socks. At the heel, you work them individually and then go back to two at a time for the calf portion. Give it a try. I think you'll like it.

  4. I love the quiet Tomten books...
We read The Willoughbys as a read aloud a while back and the kids enjoyed it, although I personally am not particularly enamored of dark humor in children's literature.

I have some rainbow Felici sock yarn, and I really need to make good on my new year's resolution to learn socks!

  7. Love the socks!

Toe up socks are somthing else, aren't they? I've knitted a few pair of toe-ups and I think I'm done with them for now. I'm finding the cast-ons to be too tedious -- it's much eaiser to graft a few stitches closed at the toe, if you ask me.

I like the idea of using up all my yarn before casting off at the top, but I don't have a kitchen scale to weigh my yarn accurately so I'm not making them all that tall. Some day I'll splurge on one.

Thanks for stopping by this week!

  16. we LOVED the willoughby's! we listened to the audiobook last summer - while i painted our bedroom. it's funny how books and events become intertwined. now when i'm in my room, i think about the book :) my daughter and i had the pleasure of hearing lois lowry speak a few months ago - what a treat. she is an incredible story teller.

  17. I really like the color of your socks, very pretty. I've never knitted socks 'toes up", but I did buy a book with good instructions. Just need to try it now... I read the book 'Made from scratch' and really enjoyed her writing style. She's got another one about chicks that I would love to read as well.
